A reminder! Traffic is about to shift on Hwy. 231 northbound due to a $4.2 million road project.
That project will replace a relief bridge (flood plain bridge) on 231 north and provide a dedicated turning lane from that bridge to Redland Road.
The traffic shift will divert northbound traffic across the median to southbound lanes, with those southbound lanes carrying four lanes of traffic in alternating directions during construction.
Bridge replacement and lane widening is expected to take about a year. There will be a reduced speed limit in the area, and the traffic shift is expected to be in place by the time for afternoon commute.
ALDOT is recommending commuters allow extra time for traveling when possible, and obey work zone and speed limit signs, watching for workers and construction equipment and vehicles.
