MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -
The City of Montgomery is preparing just in case Issac has a heavy impact on our region. Officials are mostly concerned about heavy rain and possible tornadoes.
"Crews are working to make sure all of our drainage ways are as clear as possible," said Mayor Todd Strange. "We've had some requests and we're addressing those."
Strange wants residents to make sure to keep their yards clear of debris that could end up in storm drains. Meanwhile police encourage residents to avoid flooded roads, should that become an issue.
"If they see barricades, the best thing to do is not ignore them," said Sgt. O.V. Chavez, of the Montgomery Police Department. "Turn around and take an alternate route, not to drive in standing water."
City officials will continue to have briefings with the EMA and the National Weather Service until the storm passes.
