MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -
One person is dead after an attempted robbery at the Citgo gas station in the 2300 block of West South Boulevard in Montgomery.
Authorities say the fatal shooting occurred around 8:30pm Monday when Robert James Willis entered the store armed with a handgun. Willis, a Montgomery resident, then demanded money from the cashier.
According to detectives with the Montgomery Police Department, Willis went behind the counter where he found himself in an altercation with the store's clerk.
A struggle began and Willis found himself shot. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene a short time later.
The store clerk was not injured in the incident. Police are ruling the case a "death investigation" at this time.
