INDIANAPOLIS (WAVE) - A teen trying to hide from police at a party fell to his death.
The students were drinking and partying early Monday morning on the fifth floor of the Avenue apartments near IUPUI's campus when police knocked on the door because of loud music.
Xavier Somerville, a Purdue freshman, had been in trouble once before for underage drinking.
His friends said he went to back porch and tried to climb over the balcony. He tried to jump to the fourth floor, but he missed.
Somerville's friend Liza Girton said, "I always thought, it could be worse, but then this is the worse. He would have stayed there and gotten in trouble. He wouldn't be gone to the extent that it went to."
Police said Somerville's death was an unfortunate accident.
Officers gave six people at the apartment tickets for underage drinking.
