SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -
Youree Drive between Kings Highway and Washington Street has reopened after a rollover accident that took out several utility poles.
Police say around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday morning a car heading west on Kings Highway turned north on Youree Drive when the driver reportedly lost control and rolled over, hitting a utility pole and knocking down several power lines.
Ronnie Lofton says he heard the accident and went to see what happened. Lofton says the car was still moving from its roll when he started pulling a person out of the car to safety. "When I got across the levee, the car was flipping over then. And I immediately grabbed the person that was on the passenger side and drug them up out of there because the car was smoking real bad and [had] a gas leak," says Lofton. "We didn't know if it was going [to] blow up or not."
Both people in the car were taken to LSU Health with serious injuries.
Police are investigating what caused the accident.
