More Koreans are being drawn to Alabama because of automotive manufacturing, and Auburn University is opening a new center to boost international ties.

Auburn's new Korean Center will offer non-credit courses in the Korean language.

The classes will be taught by a visiting instructor from Keimyung University. He will join about 50 Korean students and research scholars who are already studying at Auburn.

While students can't yet enroll in the courses, more information will be available this fall.

An Auburn official who works with international programs, Jennifer Mason, tells the Opelika-Auburn News (http://bit.ly/Pvs6Ms ) the area's Korean population is growing because of Auburn's proximity to the Hyundai car plant in Montgomery and the Kia automotive plant at West Point, Ga.

Mason says the Korea Center represents Auburn's global outlook.
