BUTLER CO., AL (WSFA) -
The man who led authorities on a high speed chase along Interstate 65 Monday has died, according to Alabama State Troopers. Authorities say the man died Monday night from injuries sustained after crashing his truck into a state trooper's patrol car.
The suspect, still unidentified, was ordered to pull over after a Labor Day commuter called police to report a gray pickup truck speeding and driving recklessly. Alabama State Troopers initiated the chase and were soon joined by Greenville police and Butler County Sheriff's deputies.
The crash came to an end near the city of Georgiana after the suspect struck an Alabama State Trooper Patrol car. The man was airlifted to a Pensacola, Fl. hospital where he later died.
The case is still under investigation. Authorities still have not released a motive for why the man fled and say his identity will not be released until next of kin have been notified.
