ST. CLAIR COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -
The St. Clair County Sheriff's Office says a man was shot by his wife during a domestic dispute Tuesday night.
According to St. Clair County Sheriff Terry Surles, the fight happened sometime between 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4 at a residence in the 2000 block of County Road 24 near the Blount County-St. Clair County line.
Sheriff Surles says the husband, identified as Roderick Mardis, attempted to strangle his wife, and the wife got away and grabbed a gun. The couple exchanged gunfire and the wife escaped the house by climbing out of a second story window. The sheriff says the husband then set fire to the home. The home was destroyed.
Mardis was treated and released from the hospital and is in custody. Sheriff Surles says Mardis faces charges of arson, attempted murder and felony domestic violence.
