MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -
Authorities are currently searching for an inmate on work release detail who escaped from a job site near Lanier High School in Montgomery
Preliminary information confirmed by the Alabama Department of Corrections states that Samuel Jeffery Gray is considered to have escaped from the Red Eagle Work Center in Montgomery. He was last seen at a work site picking up trash near Lanier High School.
According to the Montgomery Police Department, Bellingrath, E.D. Nixon and Lanier schools were placed on a modified lockdown "out of an abundance of caution" due to this situation. A spokesman for the Montgomery Public School District says schools were able to dismiss without incident. The lockdown was merely meant as a precaution.
Gray was sentenced on a burglary second degree charge out of Houston County on October 11, 2011. He is serving a 10 year sentence. Gray's
expiration of sentence date is scheduled for June 1, 2014, with a possible
parole date in June, 2013.
The US Marshals Fugitive Task Force is assisting with locating and
apprehending inmate Gray. If you have information regarding the
whereabouts of this individual please contact your local law enforcement
agency.
