NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

An intoxicated man is hospitalized Friday morning after he was sucked under and injured by a downtown street sweeping truck, said police.

The incident happened around 2 a.m. on Second Avenue.

Witnesses said the man walked up to the sweeper and started kicking the brush. He was then sucked under the truck and crushed by the back wheel.

The man's arm and chest became tangled in the bottom of the vehicle, according to witnesses. He is hospitalized in serious condition.

Second Avenue had to be closed for about an hour. Police describe the man as a transient who is frequently spotted in the area.
