BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - An Alabama man has been arrested in a killing that occurred 32 years ago in southern California.
Authorities say 65-year-old Thomas Young of Fairfield is charged with murder in the death of 15-year-old Stacy Knappenberger of Oxnard, Calif.
Authorities from Oxnard and Jefferson County in Alabama say Young was arrested after DNA evidence linked him to the slaying.
Knappenberger was found dead at home on July 30, 1980. Evidence showed she was stabbed to death and sexually assaulted, and she also suffered blunt-force trauma.
Oxnard police re-examined the case in 2000, 20 years after the killing. They say a genetic match came back two years ago identifying Young as a suspect.
Young is awaiting extradition to California. It wasn't known on Friday whether he has a lawyer.
