MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

The Montgomery Police Department has arrested a local man in connection with the shooting death earlier this week of 41-year-old Walter Lee Frazier.

MPD detectives charged Jorry Calhoun, 37, with murder after taking him into custody Friday morning. Calhoun was transported to the Montgomery County Detention Facility, where he was being held under a $75,000 bond.

Montgomery Police initiated the homicide investigation after responding with Fire Medics to a residence in the 600 block of Upchurch Circle at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5. There they located the victim, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Frazier was transported to Baptist Medical Center South in life-threatening condition and was pronounced dead shortly after midnight Thursday.

MPD's investigation indicates the victim and suspect were known to each other and that Frazier was shot when a verbal disagreement escalated into violence. This is Montgomery's 18th homicide in 2012.
