SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Police said they found a child left alone in a car on Tuesday while the mom was inside tanning.
A Spartanburg Public Safety officer responded to the Ultra Tan salon on Winchester Place off of W. O. Ezell Boulevard about 6:45 p.m. after someone saw a girl sitting in the back seat of a black SUV with the windows down and the keys in the ignition.
When the officer asked the 6-year-old girl where her mother was, she started crying and said she was in the tanning bed, according to the police report.
One of the officers went inside the Ultra Tan and found the mother, 29-year-old Elizabeth Garner, who said she had only been inside for 10 minutes and knew it was wrong to leave her child in the car, the report said.
Police said Garner told them she knew she should never have done it.
Garner was arrested and charged with neglect of a child. She was later released from jail on a $1,000 bond. The police report said Garner had a prior conviction for child neglect in Greenville County in 2010.
