Vegas draws thousands for Mexican Independence Day

Coming from Mexico, California, Arizona and around the world, thousands came to Las Vegas this weekend to celebrate Mexican Independence Day.

Sergio Contreras and Evelyn Figueroa made the over five hour drive from Baja California with a car full of their friends.

"It's a pretty crazy city. We came here, we had a blast, we partied two nights," Figueroa told FOX5.

"Big Mexican crowd (at) either the fight or the whole bar (scene)," Sergio Contreras told FOX5.

Both big fights at the MGM Grand and the Thomas & Mack Center as well as a long list of events and concerts were a big draw.

McCarran Airport said this weekend airlines added twenty two direct flights from Mexico, more than doubling the usual number.

Bars and Mexican restaurants noticed the boost in business.

"We had a great weekend, business was up and I'm looking forward to doing it again next year as well," said Danny Kokilananda, Assistant General Manager at Tacos & Tequila at the Luxor.

"It's been really busy, we're really happy, a lot of people have been showing up," said Claudia Vizzerra, manager at Lindo Michoacan on Desert Inn.
