Derek joined the WSFA 12 Sports Team in September of 1999. Not being an Alabama native, he quickly found out that this is one of the best states to live in if you love sports. And Derek LOVES sports.

As for which team he likes better, well, if you are an Auburn fan, then he likes Auburn. But, if you are an Alabama fan, then, of course he likes Alabama.

Derek is from St. Louis, Missouri. From there, he moved to Jonesboro, Arkansas to attend college at Arkansas State University. He landed his first sports anchoring job in Jonesboro at WSFA 12's sister station, KAIT.

Since joining WSFA 12, Derek has been awarded The Associated Press award for Best Sports Feature three times. He also has had the opportunity to meet and interview some of his favorite sports stars from college to professional sports. Working with such great people in such a great sports market truly is a dream come true for Derek.

Personally, Derek enjoys playing golf, and going to the movies. He is proud to be a part of such a great TV station and proud to admit he has actually become an Alabama... I mean Auburn fan.
