32nd Annual Marching Band Festival to feature more than 20 bands

PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) -

More than 2,000 high school marching band members will take to the field at The 32nd Annual Phenix Invitational Marching Festival on Saturday, Sept. 29 at Garrett-Harrison Stadium in Phenix City, Alabama.  

"This is shaping up to be one of the best years in the festival's history," said Roger Redden, Coordinator of Bands for Phenix City Schools and Director of the Phenix Invitational Marching Festival.  "The bands that are participating are some of the best high school marching bands that our area has to offer."  

This year's festival will include performances from 22 high school marching bands from Georgia and Alabama.  The Columbus State University Jazz Ensemble will perform from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.  The evening will conclude with a performance by the host band for the Phenix Invitational Marching Festival, the Central High School Red Devil Regiment, followed by an awards ceremony.  

Bands receiving Superior or Excellent ratings from festival judges will receive trophies, as well as auxiliary units that receive Superior ratings.  One band from each of four classifications, which are based on the size of the band, will be named "Best in Class."

The bands that are scheduled to participate include: Manchester High School, Jordan High School, Lanett High School, Russell County High School, Early County High School, Dadeville High School, Beauregard High School, Chilton County High School, Americus Sumter County High School, Reeltown High School, Alabama Christian Academy, Harris County High School, LaGrange High School, Beulah High School, Valley High School, Tallassee High School, Peach County High School, Shelby County High School, Smiths Station High School, Prattville High School, Pelham High School and Central High of Phenix City.

Gates for the 32nd Annual Phenix Invitational Marching Festival will open at 10 a.m., with the first band performing at 11 a.m. The awards ceremony is scheduled for 8:15 p.m.  All times are Eastern Standard Time. Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for children ages 6 through 12.  Children younger than 6 will be admitted for free.
