First tenant announced for Birmingham entertainment district

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

We now know the first tenant of Birmingham's new Entertainment District. Dallas based Brazilian Steakhouse Texas de Brazil is set to open in 2013. Managers of the district have been tight lipped about what businesses will fill the vacancies but that's not keeping the restaurant from talking. On Texas de Brazil's website it simply says "opening in Birmingham's Entertainment District 2013" and provides a link to the district's website.

"Typically most of our locations that we are opening are in an area such as that. A lot of foot traffic, other events going on, entertainment, shopping, retail. We usually like to be in those areas," Candyce Hedlund, the restaurants director of marketing, said.

The steakhouse will open in an 8000 square foot space that can seat 225. It will also boast a rooftop patio. Hedlund says the restaurant will offer a unique dining experience.

"We feature a 50 to 60 item gourmet salad area that guests help themselves to and then when they're ready the carvers will come around with various cuts of meat that are grilled and seasoned and carved table side," Hedlund said. "You can eat meats for as long as you'd like."

Although the BJCC remains tight lipped on tenant information, they do expect the Entertainment District, like the Westin Hotel, to bring several job opportunities to the city.

"There's opportunities for jobs there as well so that's another component of the project another economic development benefit of the project," BJCC executive director Tad Snider said.

Calls to the Entertainment District's public relations department were not returned.
