Jeff Davis HS Teacher a Class Act

Tommy Goggans had a plan.  After 21 years in the classroom he was ready to retire.   So he left Johnnie Carr Middle School and tried something else.   It took about two weeks for Goggans to realize he missed the classroom way too much.   "This is what I love to do, and feel I do the best, so I'm back," Goggans said.

He works with special needs students.  This year he is at Jeff Davis High School in Montgomery.   The person who nominated him for the Class Act award says he knows what each child likes, and takes a special interest in each student.   "Some say you have to have a special gift to work with these kids, I'll take my kids everyday because they have so many gifts to give me."

Mr. Goggans says a simple greeting goes a long way.  "When these kids come in every morning they want to shake your hand or give you a fist bump, that does it for me."   So he's back, doing what he loves.   Mr. Tommy Goggans from Jeff Davis HS in Montgomery, this week's Class Act.
