HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
UAHuntsville shooting survivor Debra Moriarity spoke freely moments after Amy Bishop-Anderson was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
"It's been a very difficult time, we're trying to rebuild, and we all really wanted this to be over," said Moriarity.
But the legal process isn't over. The UAHuntsville shooting victims and their families will have to re-live the carnage all over again during the civil cases.
Within minutes of the sentence, civil attorneys filed paperwork to receive evidence and have access to witnesses for their cases. Civil litigation was set aside until after Bishop-Anderson's criminal matters were settled. At least four victim's families, including the Moriarity's, are suing Bishop-Anderson, her husband and the UAHuntsville provost.
"She shot people that supported her tenure," said Moriarity.
Legal experts said these civil cases could take years to conclude.
