MONTGOMERY CO., AL (WSFA) -
Authorities with the U.S. Department of Defense were called to a scene in Montgomery County Wednesday afternoon after railroad workers made an odd discovery.
CSX Railroad employees discovered a set of large artillery rounds in the wood line a short distance from the train tracks.
The unexploded rounds were found off Sprague Junction Road in the county approximately one quarter of a mile from Highway 331.
Montgomery County Sheriff D.T. Marshall said the rounds were determined to be safe for removal.
Marshall added that crews with the Montgomery Police Department Bomb Squad and the ABI have transported the rounds from the site and taken them "to an undisclosed location".
The Department of Defense has been notified about the discovery, along with the Department of Homeland Security.
Officials are trying to determine how the rounds ended up at the location.
