HOOVER, AL (WBRC) -
Riverchase Galleria will soon give shoppers more to choose from by the year's end.
"Several tenants began looking at the property so hopefully that will bring in a nice mix of higher end retail," said Galleria Marketing Manager Chris White.
So far, White said six stores have committed to the Galleria. They include Pandora, Destination Maternity, Rainbow, Tored, Jared and upscale department store Von Maur.
"They expect a certain class of service at Riverchase Galleria and we're happy that we're now able to get up to that level."
The $69 million project is well underway, like the elevator work going on behind a wall near the food court. Shoppers like Nicholas White have taken notice.
"It brings more tourists and you know more things to do so that's great," said Nick.
It's not just new stores shopper will see. A nice chunk of change is being focused on repairing and replacing parts of the skylight in the mall as well as the parking deck.
"They're going to be updating the lighting. The elevators, the stairwells, pedestrian bridges. It's going to be the full works," said White.
And one thing that's always in high demand: jobs.
"The renovation alone you think about the impact that has on the local economy and how you employ the people that do the construction. the people that are involved in the retail aspect of it," said White.
The new shops except Von Maur are shooting for an opening date by Black Friday. Von Maur is expected to open up October 2013.
White said there are several other retailers looking or in the process of signing a lease with the mall.
