HOLBROOK, AZ (CBS5) -
A 62-year-old Winslow man has tragically died after falling into the Chevelon Canyon River while walking with friends.
Navajo County Sheriff's Office spokesman John James said Michael Conlon and four friends were heading from Holbrook to Winslow on Territorial Road about 4:30 on Sept. 28, when they stopped at the bridge. Conlon was on the east side of the river, standing on a rock ledge about 15 to 20 feet above the water, when he slipped and fell in the water.
NCSO said one of the friends jumped into the water to try to save Conlon but he couldn't find him.
The Winslow Fire Department Dive Teams recovered Conlon's body from the river about 6:30 p.m.
