AUBURN, AL (WXTX) -
Work trucks drive in and out at the GE Aviation Construction site in Auburn's West Tech Park.
When a ribbon cutting is held next March, the facility is expected to become an industry leader in green construction and manufacturing. The facility is a massive 300,000 square feet with a price tag of $30 million.
"We have really looked at it from a energy efficient and conservation as we have built it," said Joe Markiewiez, GE Aviation Auburn Plant Manager.
Markiewiez is a GE Veteran and has been tapped to be the plant manager in Auburn. He says the facility will produce jet engine components for military and commercial aircraft and he's in the process of assembling his team.
"We are underway in the hiring process for both salaried and hourly employees," he said. "We are looking for manufacturing associates that quite frankly work in a machine show setting and work as a member of a high performance team."
Markiewiez says GE will be hiring about 300 to 400 workers as production ramps up over the next several years.
