MONTGOMERY – The Alabama State completed its on-field preparation today for Saturday's Southwestern Athletic Conference home game against Texas Southern.

The Hornets (3-2 overall, 3-1 SWAC) and Tigers (1-4, 1-2) will kickoff Saturday at 1 p.m. at Cramton Bowl. The game will be broadcast live on WVAS 90.7 FM and video streamed free of charge on bamastatesports.com.

"I would have liked for our focus to be a tad bit more on point, but I think the guys have had a pretty good week of practice," head coach Reggie Barlow said after Friday's walkthrough. "It's just a matter of time now before we strap it up."

Alabama State has started fast offensively, scoring at least 14 first-quarter points in three of its five games this season, including a season-high 21-point first quarter at Alcorn State.

"It's important for a lot of reasons, primarily to create the energy and atmosphere to get our guys and the fans into it," Barlow said of getting off to a fast start. "That doesn't always mean on offense; it can be the defense getting a three-and-out (which it has also done three times this season). Those are some of the things we want to do."

The Hornets will spend the month of October in the state of Alabama, as the next two games are at home in Montgomery prior to the State Farm Magic City Classic at the end of the month. Tomorrow's game is Connection Day, where prospective students will spend the morning on the ASU campus learning about educational offerings prior to attending the game.

"It's a blessing to be back at home," Barlow said. "I know our fans will be out and we'll have a good crowd. It's Connection Day, and it's an early game, which I really love. We're happy to be in front of our fans and are looking forward to gameday."
