JACKSONVILLE, TX (KLTV) -

An elderly woman, who officials believe was in her seventies, is in critical condition at Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler after she was hit by a vehicle near downtown Jacksonville, Sunday afternoon.

Officials say Margie Benge was with a group of catholic's holding signs for "respect life day" in front of the library near downtown Jacksonville, when an oncoming vehicle went over the curb and hit Benge. The car then dragged her for about 25-feet, hit a boat attached to a trailer, then came to a stop.

Officials say Benge was transported to a local hospital but the extent of her injuries is not yet known. She was conscious at the scene.
