BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

To say Auburn's season hasn't gone as Tiger fans would have liked is an understatement.

"Well, this year we're just struggling," says one fan.

"Disappointed, but still hopeful," says another.

Auburn's loss to Ole Miss on Saturday put the Tigers at 1-5 overall, and 0-4 in the SEC for just the first time since 1980. With three of Auburn's final six opponents currently ranked in the Top 25, a turnaround seems unlikely.

"It's tough because we're not playing up to what we should be, and certainly what you want them to be," says Tiger fan Nolan Awbrey.

Other fans and those in the media are calling for coach Gene Chizik to be fired, but Awbrey feels differently.

"Frankly, I think just lack of talent. You can complain about the coach, you can complain about this or that. Just don't think we've had the level of talent we've had in the past," he said.

Other fans, like Jason Ayers, think the coach's past accomplishments should buy him some time in the present.

"I think he earns another year by bringing us the national championship two years ago," Ayers said.

However, while Ayers believes Chizik is not entirely to blame for Auburn's problems, he does think the coach deserves some criticism.

"I think it's a combination of things. I think the coaching has some blame, but I also think it's not having the right personnel with the system that's in place," he said.

Still, in this day and age of college football, the ultimate responsibility for a football team rests with its head coach. Which begs the question, if a coaching change doesn't happen this season, at what point should it?
