AKRON, OH (WOIO) -

A terrifying ordeal for an Akron dog owner after her pup got stuck in a storm drain.

Ashley Morris tells 19 Action News her dog, Wiz, got out of the house around 6:30 p.m. and ran onto McKinley Avenue. The pup was then hit by a car and knocked into a storm drain.

Morris and her neighbors spent nearly two hours trying to coax the little Chihuahua from the drain.

Morris said the police did come to the scene, but told her the City would not be able to bring anyone to help Wiz until the morning.

"I couldn't just leave him in there to die overnight," Morris said. "Thank God I got him out myself."

Little Wiz's back legs are broken, but he is expected to recover.
