Investigators with the Tuscaloosa Police Department's Juvenile Division arrested five sex offenders in the past week.
Sgt. Brent Blankley said officers issued warrants to the following suspects:
-Billy Ray Harris, 54, turned himself in on two warrants on October 15. The warrants were for failure to register and establish a residence by a school or daycare. Juvenile investigators had obtained the warrants earlier in the year.
-John Bradley Toney, 41, turned himself in on a warrant on October 15. The warrant was for failure to obtain a driver's license or identification. Juvenile investigators obtained the warrant on him earlier in the week after he tried to register without having a driver's license or other form of identification.
-Jeremy David Smith, 41, was arrested after officers conducted a traffic stop on him. Smith lives in Tuscaloosa County and during the stop it was discovered that he used some type of white tape to cover up the sex offender status on his driver's license. Juvenile investigators obtained a warrant on Smith for mutilated drivers license or identification. The warrant was served on him on October 11.
-Dana Leon James, 29, was arrested after investigators discovered that James had been released from prison in 2011 on a Rape II conviction and had never registered as a sex offender. Investigators obtained two warrants on him for failure to register and establish a residence by a school or day care. The warrants were served on him on October 12.
-David Edward Liles, 36, had registered as a sex offender using an address in the 4300 block of Stillman Blvd. Juvenile investigators discovered that he never lived at this address while doing a compliance check.
