MPD Holiday Safety Awareness Training

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Christmas is right around the corner and Montgomery Police are saying tips the season for holiday crime prevention.

"Criminals are desperate during the holiday season and crime is going to heighten and we want to make sure businesses and staff members and managers of those businesses know how to handle the crime and we're going to sit down and train them," Montgomery Police Corporal David Hicks said.

Hicks says officers will come to your place of business to discuss current crime trends, shoplifting, counterfeit money, property theft, robbery and employee personal safety.

"And we want to make sure they know how to handle those safely and employees can get to the situation if it ever were to occur. We're going to teach them what to look for and what the tools are criminals are using," Hicks said.

It's all a part of the free holiday safety awareness and crime prevention training.

Potential thieves are lurking and that's why Cici's Pizza general manager Patrick Parker contacted police for the help.

"Just maybe having an issue here in the store and I picked up the phone and called the police department and started asking some questions and they put in place with the right person," Parker said.

Parker says the training has helped his staff become more alert. He hopes it will help ward off the criminals this holiday season.

The training just doesn't end after the holidays. Police are available year-round to assist retail stores with crime prevention.

In fact, officers hold monthly meetings with stores that solicit their assistance.
