DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) -
A Dothan teenager was arrested Friday on charges of making a terrorist threat. Police say the teen made threats aimed at Northview High School, threatening to blow up the band room.
Police say on Tuesday they received a report from someone concerned about the threats the student had made. Officers later arrested the teen.
"We take anything seriously and when there is documentation and evidence to support that a threat has been made we do prosecute in these cases. It is very important to offer that protection," stated Sgt. Rachel David with the Dothan Police Department. "
The suspect is not being identified due to their status as a minor.
"We encourage people to talk to their children not only about communicating threats of violence that they may overhear, but also not participating in talk and activity that could get them in trouble," Sgt. David added.
Dothan City Schools were on fall break this week. We were able to speak with Superintendent Tim Wilder, who says the school system quickly and willingly worked with police on the investigation.
He says it's an unfortunate situation, but is an example of how people must be careful with what is said and how it is said.
