MORRIS, AL (WBRC) -
A north Jefferson County man is fighting back after he was victimized, and he's doing it in a unique way.
Morris resident, Jeff Dennis, has placed a sign in his front yard that reads, "Burglarized, $5000 reward." That shows just how far he's willing to go to get jewelry he views as irreplaceable.
"What hurts is that it wasn't my stuff, it was my wife's stuff and my kids stuff that was going to be passed on to them. That's what hurts me," said Dennis. "The memories that goes with these things, my deceased parents, her (his wife's) deceased grandparents jewelry, the things that I bought them when each one of my children were born, that's what hurts me."
While Dennis and his family were away at the lake on October 14th and 15th, his home was empty. And thieves knew it. They went up the back porch and entered through the screen door before throwing a brick through a bathroom window.
"Well, it didn't have the glass break sensors at the time. We do have them now. We were about a week late," said Dennis.
Inside the home, there are broken memories and busted glass. "They violated us, they came into our home," said Dennis.
In addition to the sign in his yard, Dennis has posted pictures of the stolen items on Facebook and begs anyone with information to come forward. Dennis says he doesn't care who took the jewelery or why, he just wants it back.
"If some of the family or they want to turn themselves in, we'll pay $5000 towards their rehabilitation. Like I said, we're forgiving. In our hearts, we had to forgive them to begin with, for our children as an example. Good can come of this," said Dennis.
