TUSKEGEE, AL (WSFA) -

Former employees of Victoryland joined elected officials for a rally Wednesday in Downtown Tuskegee.

The facility shut down back in 2010, in the midst of a state-wide crack down on gambling.  And when it did, local officials it had a devastating effect on the local economy.

"We're now ready to stand up as a county and let our voice be heard," said Johnny Ford, Tuskegee Mayor-elect.

"I worked there for seven years, I was a manager in gaming," said Hattie King, a former employee.  "And I want my job back and I'm out here to support any effort that we can put in Macon County so we can get our jobs back."

In August, Milton McGregor told WSFA 12 News plans to open the casino were on track. With unemployment in Macon County at 10% those who rallied said Victoryland's re-opening could be the start of turning around the local economy.
