New Phenix City hotel hopes to cash in on region's upswing

PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) -

In less than a year, a new hotel should be standing on the banks of the Chattahoochee River.

"It is with great excitement for me to announce to you today that Ram hotels have received all of the necessary approvals for a four story, 99 room, Courtyard Marriott hotel located directly by the foot of the 14th Street bridge here in Phenix City," said Shaun Culligan, Economic Development Specialist.

This development coincides with several new projects in the area along with an emerging white water rafting attraction.  The hotel has direct access to the riverwalk and a pedestrian bridge to Columbus that is nearly ready to open.

The president of Ram Hotels outlined features that will make guests feel like they never left home.

"A lot of living space, a lot of public area, you know you have a reading library, you have home theater, you have an outside grilling area, an outside patio, you know, you have Bistro Bar," said Rinkesh Patel.

In addition to the permanent service jobs this new business will bring to the area, between 75 and 120 construction workers will also be employed from ground break to grand opening.

Ram Hotels sees a future in the Phenix City –Columbus area, and that's why they are adding their tenth hotel in the region.

"We thought that the next demand generators are going to be in this area, and what better way to address that than to put hotel rooms here, and hence, you have a Courtyard on the Riverfront."

City leaders are hoping that other businesses follow suit and join the growing economic momentum that is making this area a major destination.
