CLANTON, AL (WSFA) -
The Alabama Department of Public Health confirms that it has suspended the license of Clanton Hospital, L.L.C., to operate the Chilton Medical Center as a hospital through an emergency order of the State Health Officer.
The order directs the hospital to cease all operations in an orderly manner.
Clanton Hospital, L.L.C., doing business as Chilton Medical Center, was placed on notice of the Alabama Department of Public Health's intention to revoke its license to operate a hospital on October 2, 2012.
The notice of intention to revoke license was based upon deficiencies, including the hospital's inability to meet financial obligations, and failure to have an effective governing authority.
On October 29, 2012, the Chilton Medical Center was found to have insufficient funds for the issuance of payroll checks to its employees.
The hospital tells WBRC Fox 6 that its license to operate has been suspended, but it has not been revoked. A contested case hearing for the permanent revocation of the hospital's license is set for November 8, 2012.
WBRC also reports that patients are being discharged from the facility. The only patients being treated are ones being seen in the emergency room.
