New sheriff candidate in Quitman County

QUITMAN COUNTY, GA (WTVM) -

There is a new man throwing his hat in the ring for Quitman County Sheriff.

Deputy Jamie Ming, who has worked with the sheriff's office in Quitman County for the past four years, will be a write- in candidate on the November 6 ballot.

You may remember during the primary elections the incumbent Sheriff Steve Newton was succeeded by challenger Billy Joe Foster.

Ming's name will not be listed on the ballot – voters will have to write him in.

Ming feels he is the best man for the job because of his strong ties to the community and because he knows the Georgetown area.

"I know the people and I am familiar with the people living here," said Deputy Ming. "I knew most of them growing up and in my time of being here working as four years for deputy sheriff here, I've gotten to know a lot more people here and deal with them more."

Ming's opponent Billy Joe Foster says that he is still confident that the people will choose the right man to be sheriff of Quitman County.

Ming is listed as a qualified write in candidate in the November election.
