Authorities in Alexander City are on the scene of a helicopter crash that occurred around 4:15pm Thursday. Two people were transported to Russell Medical Center.

The crash happened near the Alex City Airport, according to Airport Director Mike Smith. The crash site is located behind a fence and is secure, Smith added.

The two people on board the aircraft were transported to nearby Russell Medical Center for treatment. Smith said the victims had non life-threatening injuries including cuts, bruises and possibly a back injury. Their identities have not been released.

The aircraft is a small, privately-owned helicopter, though no additional information is currently available regarding it.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration have been notified and NTSB investigators will be in Alex City Friday.
