Alabama finishes work week for No. 5 LSU

The Alabama football team practiced for 90 minutes in shells on Thursday inside the Hank Crisp Indoor Practice Facility as they made final preparations for Saturday's SEC contest at No. 5 LSU.

The No. 1 Crimson Tide (8-0, 5-0) are on the road for the third time in four weeks, this time to visit the Tigers (7-1, 3-1 SEC) in Death Valley. The Crimson Tide boasts a 46-25-5 edge in the series, including a 25-9-2 mark in Baton Rouge.

The Alabama/LSU game is being staged for the third time in 12 months. The Tigers won a 9-6 game in overtime in Tuscaloosa last season before the Crimson Tide won the BCS National Championship, 21-0, in January in New Orleans. The game features two physical football teams that boast strong defenses.

"It (the LSU game) will be the most physical game we play all year," Alabama center Barrett Jones said. "Without a doubt, the most physical games I've played in my life have been against them. We really respect the way they play football. They aren't really going to try and trick us. They are going to line up and play their defense and we are going to line up and play our offense."

Alabama junior quarterback AJ McCarron was selected as one of 10 finalists for the 2012 Johnny Unitas Golden Award on Thursday.

Jones, who won the ARA Sportsmanship Award in 2011, was also named one of 10 finalists for the award once again in 2012 on Thursday.

The Alabama/LSU game is being televised nationally in primetime on CBS and is slated to kickoff at 7 p.m. (CDT). Verne Lundquist and Gary Danielson will call the action with Tracy Wolfson reporting from the sidelines.
