MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -
Montgomery hosted its first TEDx event Thursday Evening, a move organizers said puts Montgomery on the map as a city on the rise. TEDx events are an offshoot of the TED talks that feature some of the nation's foremost thinkers and innovators.
TED stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design, and all of that was on display at Montgomery's City Hall Auditorium. Speakers cited Montgomery's re-development of Downtown and Old Cloverdale as innovative examples that are shown nationally. Performers also showed ways to bring different sections of art together.
"TEDX doesn't approve licenses very easy and so when they see a city that wants to do it, they ask a lot of questions," said Chad Emerson, Development Director for the City of Montgomery. "One of the things they said is Montgomery is a city on the rise and that's why we think you're ready for a TEDx."
The talks from the TEDxDexterAvenue will be posted on YouTube soon. For more information on TED and TEDx, and to watch talks from around the world, click here.
