NOGALES, AZ (AP/CBS5) -
Federal authorities in southern Arizona have seized more than 5,400 rounds of ammunition that was headed to Mexico.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers assigned to the Dennis DeConcini Port in Nogales say the vehicle of a Mexican man was referred for an additional inspection.
During the inspection, officers located 272 boxes of ammunition that's often used in assault weapons.
They say the 5,440 rounds of ammo were concealed in both rear quarter panels of the vehicle.
The ammunition and vehicle were seized.
Authorities say 21-year-old Erik Raul Enriquez-Leon of Nogales, Sonora, Mexico was arrested and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations for further investigation.
