MORGAN COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Sunday was a day of pomp and circumstance in Priceville, where hundreds gathered to honor the American heroes of Morgan County.

The celebration began with a parade, that led to the dedication of the Morgan County Veterans Memorial Park. A wreath ceremony was also held to honor those killed in action.

Veteran, Colonel R. Brian Williams,  served as the guest speaker, but for the last 26 years he has served this country.

"It is something I have always wanted to do. Hearing the stories from my father, my grandfather, and all of those who went before me, it gave me some clarity in life and gave me a place where I wanted to go," said Col. Williams.

The Army has taken him all over the world to different battlefields in different wars. His job has now moved from the front lines to the Pentagon.

"Whenever you get down to Alabama and you see all of these veterans groups come together to remember and celebrate our veterans, with a war like Afghanistan that has been ongoing for many years, it is good we have not forgotten," said Col. Williams.

He said he wants everyone to remember the men and women who are still there, not just on Veterans Day, but every day.

"Every individual who signed on the dotted line since 2001 knew they were going to war. Every one of them knew that, and they still volunteered and they still answered that call. They still walk and run to the sounds of the guns," said Williams.
