PEORIA, AZ (CBS5) -
Peoria police are hoping fresh tips will lead to the arrest of a man suspected of stealing an SUV containing 20 firearms.
The vehicle was stolen May 26 from the parking lot of the Diamond Shamrock near 83rd Avenue and Cactus at about 12:45 p.m.
Police said a man who stopped at the convenience store was not able to start his vehicle and called a family member for help. Unable to fix the problem, the man then transferred all his belongings over to the family member's SUV, including 20 firearms.
The suspect, who observed the activity, was sitting on a nearby wall. He got into the driver's seat and drove off.
Before this incident, the suspect walked into the convenience store twice, police said. Surveillance video shows the suspect talking to the clerk about change for the pay phone. He entered a second time to buy a bottle of water.
He is described as Hispanic and between 20 to 30 years old. He is between 5'6" to 5'8" tall and weighs between 140 to 160 pounds. He has dark hair with a crew-cut hairstyle. He has a large colorful tattoo on his left forearm and a smaller tattoo on the inside of his right forearm.
The stolen vehicle was recovered, but the firearms were missing.
Detectives working this case said they have been following promising leads for the past few months, however those have not led them to this suspect.
People who recognize the man are urged to contact detectives on the Tip Phone Line at 623-773-7045.
