BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

The Alabama woman who inspired the nation's "Fair Pay Act" in 2009 is sharing her story in Birmingham at a special luncheon Wednesday.

Lilly Ledbetter is attending the Birmingham Society for Human Resources Management luncheon at The Club.

Ledbetter wrote a book called "Grace and Grit," which tells the story of how she fought with Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Gadsden for equal pay. For 19 years she was paid 15 percent less than her male coworkers.

Ledbetter hopes that her book inspires younger generations to be more vigilant when it comes to their salary.

The "Fair Pay Act" says the statute of limitations for filing an equal pay lawsuit begins on the day the employer makes the intial wage discrimination, not the date of the most recent paycheck.
