SUPERIOR, AZ (CBS5) -
A woman was struck and killed after she wandered in front of a commercial truck on U.S. Highway 60 in Superior on Monday evening.
Elaine J. Romero, 47, of Superior, died instantly after being hit by the truck that was hauling a carnival amusement trailer, according to Tim Gaffney, of the Pinal County Sheriff's Department, which was called by Superior Police to investigate.
Gaffney said the truck was driven by Matthew Hydock, 29, of Eloy, and was traveling about 45 mph when Romero walked into the truck's path without a crosswalk or intersection near a Circle K store.
A witness told investigators that Romero walked into the road without warning and other witnesses claimed she was intoxicated.
Gaffney said Romero was found to be impaired by marijuana and pain medication, and a blood sample was submitted to the Arizona Department of Public Safety crime lab for analysis.
