BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Hillar Moore, Jr. was eulogized by his son Hillar Moore III in front of a packed house at St. Aloysius Catholic church Monday. Family members tell 9News that 87-year-old Hillar Moore, Jr. died November 14, 2012 from complications of a heart attack that happened earlier this month.

Bishop Meunch officiated the hour and a half mass. He described his father as a real role model for himself and five siblings as well as others in the community.

"One of the finest men ever to grace this earth," said Moore. "We were so lucky to have him so long. He was the youngest 87-year-old I've ever known." The crowd that included state, federal and local judges erupted into a standing ovation at the request of Hillar III. "My dad is on his way home. I believe my dad deserves a standing ovation," Moore said tearfully.

In the early 90's Hillar Jr. lost his wife, Bernadine and daughter, Janet to cancer. That prompted Moore to be on the board for Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center. He was an avid baseball coach and President of Associated Foods for 19 years. He retired in 1995. He volunteered for dozens of different organizations.

Hillar Jr. entered the Marine Corps in 1943 serving during world war two. Monday he was buried with full military honors the flag presented to the family.

Former LSU athletic director Skip Bertman summed up Moore's life. "You just can't do any better," says Bertman. "I mean what a life; he was a supreme community superstar. His family is very proud and wall to wall people paying respect."

Moore was buried at Greenoaks Memorial park.
