HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
He's arguably the most popular man in the state of Alabama, but would you vote Nick Saban for president? Dozens of North Alabama voters did just that.
Some might call it a wasted vote, but under Alabama law it still counts, and that's why Coach Nick Saban was one of the most popular write-in vote getters in the U.S. Presidential race.
DeKalb County cast 22 ballots for him. Lauderdale and Lawrence counties had 12 write-ins. Colbert and Franklin counties had three votes each, and every other North Alabama county had at least one vote - except for Madison County.
Madison County election officials said that's because the number of write-ins had no effect on who won or lost the election. They were unable to pull the results when WAFF 48 News requested them. They do want people to understand a vote for Nick Saban did get tabulated though.
Saban also received votes for other elected positions, including one for superintendent in Franklin County.
His wife even received a vote for Circuit Clerk in Marshall County.
Auburn Coach Gene Chizik had a handful of write-in votes for various state and national positions.
Alabama counties had to certify their votes by Friday. However, the state elections office won't have the total number of write-ins for at least a few days.
Votes for fake people like Big Bird or Batman are not counted.
