WEST BATON ROUGE PARISH, LA (WAFB) -
One person is dead after losing control of a car and ending up in the trees that line the interstate early Wednesday morning.
The Louisiana State Police said the crash happened on I-10 West near mile marker 146, which is in West Baton Rouge Parish near the Iberville Parish line, a little after 1 a.m.
Troopers identified the driver as Reginald Head, 29, of Maringouin. He was the only person in the car.
They said excessive speed is considered to be a factor in the wreck.
Authorities said the initial investigation showed the 2004 Lincoln Town Car Head was driving veered off the road and into the median.
It appears he overcorrected and the car started to spin, crossing both lanes of the interstate and going off the road on that side.
Troopers reported the car then hit a tree on the driver's side and went airborne into the trees.
LSP said although Head was wearing his seatbelt, he was partially ejected.
