LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - As drivers hit the roads to meet family for the Thanksgiving holiday, many road workers are also getting the holiday off. However, that doesn't mean that construction zones won't be completely inactive.

"Most of our contractors have the Thanksgiving weekend off," said Andrea Clifford with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, "but it's really up to each contractor as to whether or not they want to work."

Clifford adds that you shouldn't encounter any lane closures along interstates in District 5, which includes the counties of Bullitt, Franklin, Henry, Jefferson, Oldham, Shelby, Spencer and Trimble.

One exception to the holiday rule is in Oldham County. Clifford tells us that crews will be doing some paving work along KY 2856 (Elder Park Road) on Friday and Saturday. Drivers could see lane closures and delays between KY 393 and KY 53.

You can find real-time traffic information on the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet web site. Indiana drivers can also find detailed road information on the Indiana Department of Transportation web site.
