Jon-Ryan Riggins and Weston Dixon founded Los Angeles based Canvas Shop less than two years ago. What started as a hobby, printing photos on canvas for friends and family, quickly expanded into a full force production and retail shop. Riding the wave that word-of-mouth created, but acutely aware of its limits, they set about developing a marketing plan that would leverage their buzz, and simultaneously fuel its fire.
In a small business, with a marketing budget to match, it quickly became clear that leveraging big creativity was a must. Many would say the current marketplace is rife with mediocre content, and so the challenge becomes producing something outstanding. Riggins and Dixon found new inspiration in the comedic viral videos popularized by such brands as Old Spice and Dollar Shave Club. In a matter of days, they conceptualized, wrote, shot, and edited a commercial meant for online distribution featuring a paid actor, holiday cheer, and a unique style of comedy.
These entrepreneurs have yet to see the full impact of their work, but, like many entrepreneurs, they've brazenly accepted the challenges and opportunities that this digital revolution has come to offer.
