AUBURN, AL (WTVM) -
Holiday spirit was in the air Thursday night at the Auburn Hotel and Conference Center for the unveiling of the 2012 Holiday Gingerbread Village.
In addition to the unveiling, the annual special event included the official lighting of the hotel's tree and star, live performances by a bell choir, a visit from a special holiday teddy bear, and complimentary hot cocoa and cider in the lobby.
"We've been doing this for five years now," said managing director Hans van der Reijden. "It's become a tradition here in town and every year we get one building in addition to what we had before."
Every year the hotel teams up with the students of AU's McWhorter School of Building Science to create a replica of a building on campus out of gingerbread.
The process of building those models usually takes about a month.
