$1 Million Powerball prizes sold in Dallas and Houston claimed

Released by the Texas Lottery Commission:

(AUSTIN) – All four $1 million prizes from Wednesday's record Powerball® drawing have been claimed. Abraham Chavira and Kathleen H. Komatinsky both claimed their prizes at the Texas Lottery® claim center in Houston, and Betty S. Galloway claimed her prize in Dallas. All three presented lucky tickets matching five numbers (5–16–22–23–29), but not the Powerball (6) from Wednesday's drawing.

Chavira, Komatinsky and Galloway requested minimal publicity.

Chavira purchased his ticket at the Stop By Market, located at 4040 Boone Road in Houston. Komatinsky's ticket was purchased at the Timewise Food Store #208, located at 7501 FM 1960 Road East in Humble. Galloway purchased her ticket at the 7-Eleven #12205, located at 5123 W. Lovers Lane in Dallas.

Ruben Briones of San Antonio claimed a $1 million prize yesterday for his ticket purchased at the Frio City Food Mart, located at 707 Frio City Road in San Antonio.

Texas was one of the top five selling states for Wednesday's drawing. Powerball sales in Texas totaled nearly $75 million for the run up to this jackpot, making public education in Texas the biggest winner. The city of Dallas accounted for $3.6 million in sales and Houston had more than $10 million in sales. These figures do not include the areas surrounding both cities. The city of Humble had $444,686 in sales.

During Wednesday's peak selling period between 6:00 p.m. and 6:59 p.m., the Texas Lottery's sales per minute totaled $74,880. This surpasses Texas' highest hourly sales per minute rate of $70,839 for the March 30, 2012, Mega Millions® drawing.

The final amount of the advertised $550 million jackpot was $587.5 million, with a cash value of $384.7 million. This was the largest Powerball jackpot ever and the second largest jackpot in history for any lottery game.

Our Saturday weather was right on par with what we have been dealing with across central and south Alabama all week long... it was hot (temperatures made their way into the low/mid 90s), it was humid (heat index values went above 100° in many towns) and we saw some relief from the heat thanks to a few isolated areas of rain.
